The general election to elect next year's Owner and Supplier directors is underway.   There are two (2) owner director positions and two (2) supplier director position available. 

 

Electronic ballots will be sent to the main contact of every AAMD member.  Below are the candidates running for the open positions:

Faith Aids - RedPeak

As a professional apartment marketer, my mission is two–fold: First, to drive revenue and impact sales, and second, to position and capitalize on emerging marketing and consumer trends.

If elected to the Apartment Association of Metro Denver’s Board of Directors, I would be committed to bringing a marketing expertise and forward-thinking strategy to future initiatives, as well as offer a fresh perspective to everyday challenges. The world is quickly changing. More people are choosing to rent as a permanent lifestyle option, attention spans are shorter than ever and 50% of the world’s population is under 30 years old. My ability to recognize, react and capitalize on emerging trends will assist the association as it evolves to meet the needs of its constituency.

My 12+ years’ experience in the apartment industry has afforded me the opportunity to work with national companies, as well as numerous boutique firms. This has provided me with a distinctive understanding of the unique challenges each of us faces, and my pledge is to bring that prowess to the Association and stay relevant and progressive to the members and the great city of Denver.

 

Janelle French - Mission Rock Residential

It is with respect that I submit my bio and name to serve on the board for the Apartment Association of Metro Denver.  I have over 20 years’ experience working in the Property Management field, and have held multiple leadership roles and worked with a variety of ownership groups and investment partners.  Through my experience I have gained insight and great understanding of the many challenges and opportunities that face the multifamily industry today.  I believe in order for us to remain relevant and effective we should be engaged in serving where we can make difference.  If elected I would offer a deep commitment by contributing to the work of the Apartment Association as it continues to support and serve the owners, management companies, apartment communities and suppliers in the Denver Metro Area.  I would be honored to serve.

 

 

Scott Kirkwood - Griffis/Blessing

As Regional Property Manager, Scott Kirkwood is responsible for a Denver portfolio which consists of 14 communities and over 2,600 units. Mr. Kirkwood has over twenty years of property management experience in multiple submarkets along the Front Range. His experience includes the lease up of numerous properties in prior construction cycles. Most recently the successful lease up of the Lofts at Lincoln Station in Lone Tree. His background in subsidized housing includes work on a 501(c)(3) in Denver engaging in project based Section 8, Section 8 Elderly, and AFDC strategies as well as work with a 221(d)(4) LIHTC loan in Adams County.
Mr. Kirkwood has been Chairman of the Douglas County Planning Commission and is currently the Secretary of the Executive Board of Directors for the Apartment Association of Metropolitan Denver. He is an affiliate of the NAA, DAA and Denver Board of Realtors. He is a two time award winning Best Regional Manager in 2006 and 2013 by the Apartment Association of Metropolitan Denver. He earned the Certified Property Manager (CPM®) designation in 1994.
Mr. Kirkwood has been affiliated with AAMD over his entire career. He looks forward to continued service for one of the best apartment associations in the entire United States.

 

Kay Neal - Metrex Property Group

Kay Neal represents all that is possible in the Denver Apartment Business and she inspires all who know her as an example of one who turns positive strength and strategic leadership into business opportunity. After attending college, Kay moved to Denver in 1995 and quickly moved up the Corporate ladder at Chili’s restaurants becoming a Director of Training and opening restaurants around the world including Paris, London, Melbourne and Seoul. After starting a family, Kay took a job with Don Werner at Metrex Property Group in 2007. Kay helped established key standard operating procedures and brought efficiencies to the operation which helped the Company grow from 400 units to 1500 units in a few short years. Kay’s dedication and leadership has allowed her to flourish in all aspects of Multi-family property management while maintaining a very high level of integrity. After years of dedication and planning, Kay Neal is now the President of Metrex Property Group and continues to operate the Company with that same positive strength and enthusiasm. Kay’s continued dedication to the AAMD is evident in her involvement with The Alliance, JLAC and Co-Chair for June Awards. She is honored by the nomination and asks you thoughtfully for your vote.

 

Supplier Candidates:

 

Lorinda Bodman - For Rent.com

Lorinda wants to live in a world filled with innovative business, sharing ideas, and a good glass of red wine!

As the General Sales Manager of ForRent.com for 9 years, she’s worked in the multifamily world for let’s just say, a really- really long time!   Enjoying the challenge of creating, learning and growing a property, company or team, her experience has crossed over from the Owner-Manager to the Supplier side with much success.   She has a love for this crazy industry and has trained, chaired and/or been on many Apartment Association events & committees;  Education, Trade show, Charity Auction, Tributes, Chili Cook Off, Board Retreat, Media & Communications, Spring Clean and NALP.   She was awarded the AAMD Person of the Month by the membership and was nominated for the coveted Jack Shapiro Award. As a Supplier, Lorinda’s experience managing the Colorado business, has given her insight and love for the Supplier and the impact they have on our industry here and across the nation. She has been awarded for sales and training, as well as winning Presidents Club within the ForRent.com family.  

When Lorinda not out sharing ideas or helping businesses gain market share, you can find her enjoying this great city, skiing or possibly finding more room in her closet for shoes!   She loves her family and friends and lives for them to enjoy life!

 

Amie Harmon- RediCarpet

Amie Harmon, with Redi Carpet has 24 years of experience in the Multi-Family Housing industry in sales, marketing, management, team building, training and recruitment. Amie has been an active member of the AAMD for 18 years. Amie currently serves on the AAMD Board of Directors and is Chili Cook Off Host Chair. She has served as Supplier Council Chair and been involved with Maintenance Olympics, June Awards, Spring Clean, Charity Auction and Trade Show and Tributes.

As a Supplier Director on the Executive Board of Directors for the AAMD, she will continue to serve the industry through her commitment to successful development of programs and initiatives that benefit all members of the AAMD.  She looks forward to being an effective representative for owner/management, communities and suppliers in a direct and positive way!

 

Charlie Papas - BluSky Restoration

I am excited and honored to have been nominated to run for the AAMD Supplier Board of Director position.  I have gained incredible experience in my 5 years with BluSky Restoration in serving dozens of the AAMD member owner and management companies.  Building relationships at every level of these organizations has been essential for my success and the success of our clients.  I am fortunate to have strong support from my company which allows me to fully engage and participate in the AAMD.

 I have learned much from so many great board and committee members over the past 5 years. I'm looking forward to brining a fresh perspective with new ideas. Thank you for your support and I am truly grateful to be nominated.

 

 

Troy Porras - Wyatts Towing

Troy Porras owns the Wyatts Towing family of companies including Wyatts Towing, Lone Star Towing,  Aaliyah’s Towing, Boulder Valley Towing and Klaus’ Towing in Colorado Springs. Troy is proud to be involved in the AAMD for the last 7 years and in 2017 Wyatts is the Presenting Sponsor of the Trade Show and the B2B event, as well as providing significant sponsorship to the Summer and Winter Economic Conferences, the Maintenance Olympics, the June awards, Board Retreat, Chili Cook-off, Charity Auction and Golf Tournament. Troy has also been a supporter of the industry’s legislative agenda and is a member of the JLAC and AAMD Alliance.
In addition to his work in the towing industry and with the AAMD, Troy owns and manages real estate investments and serves on the Board of Directors of the Arapahoe House. Troy has lived in Colorado for more than a decade with his wife and 4 children.  He enjoys spending time outdoors and taking advantage of all the natural beauty Colorado has to offer.  Troy received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and has a J.D. from Stanford University Law School.

 

 

Debbie Wilson - Springman Braden Wilson Pontius, P.C.

Debbie is the managing partner/shareholder at the law firm of Springman, Braden, Wilson & Pontius, PC, a firm specializing in representing Landlords and Community Association boards.  SBWP has been a member of AAMD for more than 20 years and the firm does not represent tenants. Debbie has been practicing law for more than 23 years, focusing on Landlord/tenant collections and evictions, Fair Housing law, as well as Community Association law. 

 Debbie is considered one of the leading experts on Evictions and landlord Collections law in Colorado.  Debbie currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Creditor Bar Association (CCBA), and is the Legislative Chair for state affairs for the CCBA.   Debbie is very active in local community and legislative affairs and speaks frequently to professional organizations on evictions, collections, Crime-free housing and Fair Housing issues. She testifies frequently on landlord/tenant-related legislation on behalf of the AAMD at the Capitol. She is an AAMD  instructor for CAM certification on Fair Housing laws, and a regular columnist for Trends Magazine.  She was named 2012 Person of the Year by the AAMD, and most recently, was named a 2017 Top Lawyer by 5280 Magazine.

Debbie takes great pride in providing outstanding service to her Landlord and Property manager clients in the areas of evictions and collections, as well as staying abreast of the fast-moving changes in legislation affecting our industry.  Becoming an active member of the AAMD Board of Directors would be an honor and would further her commitment to our industry.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.
