Mark Williams

Executive Vice President

Mark is a Colorado native and a graduate of the University of Colorado (Boulder) with Degree in Business Marketing. He has managed non-profit organizations for over twenty years. Mark currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE). Prior to AAMD, Mark was with the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Chicago, where he oversaw fundraising operations for MDA Illinois.  Mark joined AAMD in 1999, since then, AAMD's membership and financial stability have continued to grow.  Mark, his wife and two daughters, live in Centennial.


Julie Evans-Schmitt

Vice President of Member Services and Business Development

Julie graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman Montana with a BA in Communication and an emphasis in PR. After school she moved to Denver and started her career in residential property management. She spent 20 years on the management side of our industry before coming to AAMD in 2005. She lives in Littleton with her husband.


Nancy Burke

Vice President of Government Affairs

Nancy represents the apartment industry on local, state, and federal levels of government and in the local community. Nancy has worked in the area of public policy and communications for more than 25 years.  Most recently, she was the Vice President of Public Policy and Communications for the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association. Nancy began her career with the Credit Union Association of Colorado in Marketing and Communications after receiving her B.A. Degree in Communications from the University of Tulsa.


Betty Knecht

Vice President of Events and Education

Betty earned her B.A. from the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH, where she was both an Academic and an All-American Collegiate Athlete. Ms. Knecht has been working for non-profit Trade Associations for nearly 2 decades. She earned her Certified Meeting Professional Designation in 2002 and her Certified Association Executive Designation in 2012.  She is active in the Colorado Society of Association Executives, serving on different committees and helping others study for the CAE exam.  In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, and spending time with her husband and 3 children ranging in age from 6-19.


Earlease Alexander


Earlease was born in Denver and raised in New Mexico where she worked as a beautician. Earlease soon enrolled in a secretarial program and developed skills that made her indispensable in her new career as a Library Processor. Her husband's job transferred Earlease and her family to Denver, where she registered with a local temporary employment service. She joined AAMD in 1999 to assist with preparations for AAMD's annual trade show, and was immediately offered the full position of Administrative Assistant. Five months later she was offered the position of Accounting Manager and has recently taken the title of Comptroller.  She has been working to help AAMD maintain proper information, and become a better business.


Christopher Dean

Vice President of Communications and Marketing

Christopher received his B.S. in Communication from the University of Utah in 2003.  He has served in various marketing, data and design positions until joining AAMD in October 2006. Originally from Salt Lake City, Chris and his wife relocated to Colorado in September 2005 and live in Parker with their daughter.  In his spare time, Chris is a musician and songwriter. 

Lisa Godbehere

Director of Education and Career Development

Lisa received her B.A. in Communications with a certificate in Leadership from Regis University in 2012. Prior to her education, Lisa served in the United States Navy working on the flight deck of an assault ship. After her military experience, she began her work in non-profit trade associations. Prior to joining AAMD, Lisa was in charge of Education Services for two different associations. In her free time, Lisa enjoys being outdoors, exploring and traveling every chance she gets.  She currently lives in Aurora with her two dogs, Tulu and Milo.

Kaleene Toback

Programs and Events Manager

Kaleene is a Colorado Native from the Western Slope, grew up in the Grand Valley.  She moved to the “Big City” of Denver and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Johnson & Wales University in 2005.  She has experience in high end hotels and country clubs, local government, Chamber of Commerce and the Energy Industry.  Kaleene has received numerous awards and accolades for her hard work and dedication in business, sales and event management.  Kaleene lives in Castle Rock with her husband Jeff, and their kids Ella and Patrick. She is a kind of domestic diva that loves cooking, crafts and all things mommy. 

Luke Miller

Government Affairs Manager

Luke was born and raised in Colorado and is a fifth generation Coloradan. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, in Political Science, from Benedictine College in Kansas, and later with a Master’s degree from the Institute of World Politics in Washington, D.C. Before joining AAMD, Luke worked as a Legislative Assistant and Press Secretary for a Member of Congress in D.C. Luke currently resides in Denver with his wife, Billie Jean, and their son, Owen Miller. In his spare time, Luke enjoys fly-fishing Colorado’s many beautiful waters.



Sarah McIlwaine

Marketing & Events Coordinator

Sarah grew up in Sarasota, Florida and moved to Colorado in the middle of high school. She attended Colorado State University and graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in Graphic Design in 2014. Before joining the Apartment Association, Sarah worked for a non-profit in the Denver Metro area doing events and office management. In her free time, Sarah enjoys volunteering, being outdoors, painting, and traveling.

Elizabeth McConville-Kim

Events Administrator

Elizabeth graduated from Marquette University with a BA in Journalism. Over the last 20 plus years, she has worked for various non-profits including community mental health, adult day health programs. Her previous job was working at the Teacher Retirement of Texas as a benefits counselor.  She and her husband have lived in numerous place including Austin, TX and Lawrence, KS before moving to Denver with their 2 children in 2013. She enjoys hiking, skiing, biking and camping.


Tania Byrne

Member Services Administrator

Tania was born and raised in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  She attended Peace College in Raleigh, and then transferred to East Carolina University in Greenville where she studied Interior Design.  After moving to Denver in 1997, she began her career in the communications industry in the areas of client care, corporate training and fraud management.  Tania spends her weekends rooting on her two daughters in soccer and basketball.  She enjoys getting back to her home state as often as she can.  While she enjoys the mountains, the ocean will always be her favorite place. 

Cristal Dukes

New Talent Outreach & Recruitment Manager

Cristal is a Colorado native. She earned a dual bachelor's degree in Journalism and Spanish from Colorado State University in 2011. Prior to working at AAMD, Cristal worked in advertising as a public relations manager. Cristal is currently a student at the University of Denver and is working on earning her master’s degree in Communication Management. In her free time, Cristal enjoys spending time with her husband, step-daughter and sweet pup, Sissy Bella.
