AAMD's annual Board of Directors election will take place April 12-30, 2021.  There are two Owner / Management seats and two Supplier Partner seats available.  Ballots will be emailed to the primary contact of each company and community manager.  Bios and campaign statements are available on the AAMD website.

Owner / Management Candidates

I am the Regional Manager for Watermark Residential overseeing the Colorado and Arizona market. It has been my pleasure to work in the apartment industry for over 20 years. I have served on various committees from the Education Advisory Counsel to the amazing Tributes Awards which I have been nominated 5 times and was a finalist 3 times. Currently, I serve as the Co-Chair of Charity Auction committee. While many of us were on lock down due to Covid-19 in 2020, I received my CAPS Certification through NAA, the first virtual class offered. 

During my career in the Apartment Industry, I have had great honor in working with some of the top leaders in our industry. I have also had the extraordinary opportunity to mentor and developed numerous people who have gone on to make an impact in the industry as managers and leaders in various organizations. I am graciously humbled to know I was apart of something bigger than their careers and therefore was a mustard seed of hope, love and support in their lives. 

If elected to the board, my hope is to continue in building the bond property management has forged for many years in partnering with the AAMD. Lastly, I hope my presence and voice is a beacon to those who are not always heard or seen in the association. 

I am both humbled and honored to be thought of in such high regard by my peers in the industry.   For many years I have been on the receiving end of all of the great educational, networking, and fun events produced every year by the association so the opportunity to give back to an association that has given so much to me both personally and professionally is a true honor.   I am eager to put my passion for the industry to work for the association and spread the joy of property management to a larger and more inclusive populace.

Tony’s multi-cultural background guides his management philosophy and his focus on diversity has helped to managed real estate across a wide array of markets that stretch from the Caribbean to the Bakken oil fields of North Dakota., Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Tony Hunt has held regional multifamily leadership roles at AMC, RADCO, Greystar, Picerne Real Estate Group, Equity Residential, and McLaughlin Anderson.  As Managing Director for, Tony is responsible for leading a best in class property management team in executing business plan objectives to maximize performance in the Denver, Kansas markets.  With a career in real estate that extends over 20 years, Tony has successfully managed many asset classes including commercial, Class A high-rise, market-rate and affordable garden-style apartment, condo conversions, single-family and luxury villas.  In addition, Tony has worked on full life-cycle real estate projects from ground-up development and lease-up deals through stabilization and disposition.  In his prior roles, Tony focused on strategically improving diversity efforts, with a focus on diversity’s impact on recruitment, education, career development, and financial performance.

His results-oriented approach to management is built on the principle of “servant leadership” and a foundation of consensus building.  Tony has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of the Virgin Islands, with a concentration in finance

Getting more involved by giving back to the industry and community is one of Amy’s personal goals for 2021. She is excited about the possibility of serving on the Board, and she looks forward to bringing new perspectives. 

Amy, a native of Toledo, Ohio, enjoys raising her family in Littleton where she loves the community and outdoor activities. She spends her spare time camping, crafting, and she’s currently building a shipping container home.  Amy received her CAPS designation in 2018 from the National Apartment Association, and Amy is a 2020 graduate of Brandman University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership. Amy has participated on several committees through AAMD. Amy is also an owner of several small properties in Colorado.

In her professional capacity, Amy Lassers is Regional Vice President for Embrey Management Services, overseeing the Colorado and Arizona markets. Known in the industry as an action-oriented and marketing-minded professional, Amy has worked in the multi-family industry for over 26 years. She moved through the ranks from Leasing Consultant to Regional Vice President throughout Southern California and Colorado. In addition to Embrey, she has worked for management companies to include The Irvine Company Apartment Communities, BRE Properties, BlackRock, and Echelon. Amy prides herself on being a participative leader with an encouraging demeanor. She breaks down barriers and leads her properties to success through innovative technology, team building, proper marketing, and holding teams accountable to a higher level while having lots of fun! Amy's motto is "Where there's an Amy, there's a way!"

Jared Miller is the Chief Operating Officer at RedPeak, current Secretary for AAMD’s Board of Directors and chair of AAMD’s new Inclusion & Diversity Committee. He was elected to the board 2 years ago and would be honored to continue working to help deliver on AAMD’s current and future goals. 

Jared has over 20 years of diverse experience including ownership, operations, development, acquisitions and executive leadership at various companies focusing on conventional, student, senior, public housing and affordable housing. He’s worked in markets coast-to-coast, but his affinity for RedPeak and Denver brought him back in 2018. He lives in Denver with his partner and commutes back to Florida to spend time with his son each month. 

Since college, the apartment industry has been the focus of Jared’s career. Starting as a part-time leasing professional while a full-time student, Jared realized the incredible career opportunities afforded in the apartment industry. It’s this experience that has helped foster his passion for multifamily – especially recruiting and nurturing new talent. He believes as an industry, we can do a much better job attracting, cultivating and retaining the next generation of leaders. 

Jared’s background provides a unique perspective. He has been fortunate to work alongside and learn from some of the most dynamic professionals in multifamily. Being on the AAMD Board of Directors and chairing the Inclusion & Diversity Committee is a way to pay it forward. As a leader, it is so important to help lift others, shine a light on opportunities and highlight what makes this industry special. 

Jared has been a regular speaker at Apartmentalize, CampusConnex, Apartment Internet Marketing (AIM) Conference, NAHB’s International Builder’s Show and NMHC’s OpTech and Annual Meeting. He was awarded the inaugural Multifamily Executive Magazine Rising Star of the Year Award. 

I would be honored to become a member of the Board of Directors as an Owner’s Representative for the Apartment Association of Metro Denver.  I am asking for your help by earning your vote.

I have long been an active member of the association, participating in various roles.  My longest active participation has been in the area of Training and Education.  I have taught many classes for the association including CAM and CAPS certifications.  I have been a presenter for breakout sessions at both Trade Shows and Maintenance Olympics.  In 2015 and 2016, I was the co-chair for the Trade Show Committee.  My most recent involvements include Advocacy, JLAC, and Diversity and Inclusion.  Not only am I a member of JLAC but also part of the national advocacy committee through the National Apartment Association.  As a member of the Diversity and Inclusion committee, I am proud to represent the Hispanic heritage as a Latino, and native Spanish speaker.  These are all the responsibilities I hold dear in an effort to make a difference in and for our industry.  These involvements do not include my many years of participation in varying committees and roles while living in Arizona as part of the Arizona MultiHousing Association.

My career spans over 24 years.  I started as a leasing consultant in 1997 and have grown exponentially in life experiences as well as my career.  I have been fortunate to be a part of such companies as Holland Residential, CWS Apartment Homes, Mark Taylor Residential, and now Grand Peaks Property Management.  The Leasing Consultant from 1997 would have never even dreamed that becoming a Senior Vice President would be an option. I am proud of the accomplishments, humbled by the opportunities, and ready to give back what has been afforded to me by others.

I promise to approach every conversation, every task, every duty as a Board of Director member with the knowledge and experience I have gained in this wonderful industry, but also remembering where I started and my humble beginnings.  This industry belongs to us and my commitment to you is to never forget that we are building an association that can be passed along to tomorrow’s leaders, many of whom (like me) are today’s leasing consultants.  I would appreciate your support and your vote this election season. 

Supplier Candidates

Jenny Jorgensen has been an advocate and volunteer to the Apartment Association of Metro Denver for over 25 years.  Jenny and her company, Standard Interiors, have been the presenting sponsor of the AAMD Economic Conference for the last 11 years.  In addition to this valuable event, she has offered support to AAMD by sponsoring, serving on, and chairing several AAMD committees including: Membership Development, Trade Show, Ambassadors, Power Lunch Council, Ski Trip, Charity Auction, June Awards, JLAC and others.   Recently, Jenny has become a part of AAMD’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and serves as a mentor for the National Apartment Association’s Diversity Leadership Program.

Jenny’s personal passion is in developing talent and providing opportunities within her organization, the multifamily industry, and the community at large.  In her free time, she serves on the Board of Directors for Family Homestead providing emergency housing to homeless families. Jenny also volunteers as a mentor and coach for the University of Colorado’s Pre-Collegiate Development Program, which is designed to motivate and prepare first generation, underrepresented high school and middle school students in the pursuit of a post-secondary education.  Jenny is also a proud alum of this important program!

Yvonne Alva Lens is currently a Sales Executive at CAMP Construction Services where she is responsible for growing CAMP’s business and reputation in the Denver Multifamily Industry.  She is responsible to maintain and grow relationships with her clients, and potential clients, providing excellent customer service by doing the right thing, respecting everyone and getting the job done right, which aligns with her personal values.

About 10 years ago Yvonne became a Supplier, after many years on-site as a Property Manager.  She is committed to the Multi-family Industry and the AAMD and supports our mission of advocating, education and communicating about our industry. Yvonne has been Chili Cook-Off Chair, earned her CAS designation, was voted in as a Supplier Council Member at Large and awarded AAMD Person of the Month in 2019.  Yvonne’s dedication to our industry is seen by her involvement over the years as a Committee Member on various AAMD Committees, participation/sponsorship of events, supports PAC/Alliance and by being an Ambassador for the AAMD.  Yvonne is known for excellent customer service, creative problem solving, building solid teams and contributing to the financial success of her assets. In 2014 she was in the top 10 for Sales at Apartments.com. She was awarded Manager of the Year in 2010 while at The Lodge at Willowcreek and was selected as an ACE Trainer for Legacy Partners in Denver.  She and her team at Ballpark Lofts were awarded Team of the Year in 2004 at The Tributes Awards Ceremony. It would be a privilege and an honor to serve the Apartment Association, and our industry, as a member of the Board of Directors and the Leadership Team. She has graciously accepted this nomination and is dedicated to serving our industry and the people in our industry, with passion, positivity and leadership.

Pete is a senior attorney at the law firm of Tschetter Sulzer, PC, practicing in the area of landlord representation since 2003. Pete’s practice encompasses a wide range of issues, with a heavy emphasis on litigation arising out of landlord tenant disputes. He has argued in front of the Colorado Court of Appeals. He regularly practices in County Court, District Court, and Federal Bankruptcy Court. Pete is the Firm’s representative at the Denver NARPM Chapter, and served as a general public member of the State of Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers from 2013-2018. Pete has long been active in the AAMD and currently volunteers as the AAMD representative on the Energize Denver Taskforce, and he also serves on an Advisory Council to the Colorado Landlord Legislative Coalition.

Pete has developed and presented continuing education classes for brokers and attorneys, and has given multiple presentations for the AAMD. He is a regular contributor to his Law Firms educational workshops known as Webinar Wednesdays.

If elected Pete will utilize his knowledge of representing organizations, serving on Boards, and advising non-profits to further the mission of the AAMD. He recognizes that we are entering a challenging new time for the multi-family housing industry with increasing new legislative actions that promises to substantively impact our business. Pete spends every day helping property owners and managers deal with problems and resolve challenging situations. That experience can and will translate to assisting the AAMD help the Apartment industry navigate the challenges ahead. Pete’s career demonstrates a commitment to the industry and he welcomes the opportunity to continue being of service in a new capacity on the AAMD Board of Directors.

Troy Porras owns the Wyatts Towing family of companies.  Wyatts has operations in Colorado and Texas.  In Colorado, we service multifamily communities from Ft. Collins to Colorado Springs with from 5 locations across the Front Range.  Troy is proud to be involved and support the AAMD for more than a decade.  For the last 5 years, Wyatts has been is the Presenting Sponsor of the Trade Show and the B2B events.  Wyatts has also been a significant sponsor of the Economic Conference, the Maintenance Olympics, the June awards, Board Retreat, Chili Cook-off, Charity Auction and Golf Tournament. Wyatts has also been a supporter of the industry’s legislative agenda and 

Troy has served as a member of the JLAC and AAMD Alliance. 

In addition to his work in the towing industry and with the AAMD, Troy owns and manages several other small businesses and real estate investments.  He is also a board member of Believe in Haiti – a wonderful non profit making a real difference for students in St. Roch Haiti.  Troy enjoys spending time outdoors and taking advantage of all the natural beauty Colorado has to offer.  Troy received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and has a J.D. from Stanford University Law School.

I am honored and excited to be considered as one of the Vendor Representatives on the AAMD Board.  I am the Managing Shareholder for the law firm of Springman, Braden, Wilson & Pontius, PC and have been involved in the Housing industry as an attorney since 1993. I have served as chair or co-chair of the Public Relations committee for the AAMD for many years and have had the pleasure of getting to know so many amazing and inspiring people in our industry during that time.  In addition to Public Relations, I also sit on the JLAC Board and am a frequent volunteer instructor for CAM Fair Housing and other legal topics for the AAMD. I also sit on the Board of the Colorado Creditor Bar Association and a number of other housing-related associations, to further the needs of Property owners in our state and nationally. Over the past year, I have been a regular attorney presenter at the “Coffee with Lawyers” forums to help members negotiate the challenges of 2020 and now 2021 and have also been engaged in the Covid Task force meetings.  

Over the past 10 years, I have become extremely involved at the Capitol, volunteering to fight and amend legislation which is harmful to the housing industry and our members. This work involves countless hours, reviewing legislation, providing feedback, meeting with legislators and other stakeholders and testifying at the Capitol frequently during legislative session. If elected, my focus would be on education of our members to continue to keep you abreast of the constantly changed legal landscape as well as educating our legislatures on the concerns and unique challenges of our industry.  I am passionate about this industry and have been honored as one of the Top Landlord Attorneys in Colorado by “5280 Magazine” each year from 2017-2021, was named AAMD’s Person of the Year and recently was inducted into the AAMD’s Hall of Fame. Advocating and communicating our message is vitally important, and I respectfully ask for your support and vote during this election.
