Professional Bio

Pete Bialick is the President of GASP of Colorado (Group to Alleviate Smoking Pollution) — a statewide nonprofit organization that has been advocating for smoke-free policies and educating the public about the dangers of secondhand smoke since 1977. GASP has been involved in more than fifty clean indoor air ordinances in Colorado and Wyoming, including seventeen ballot measures. GASP’s current focus is to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke in multiunit residential buildings, advocate for stronger smoke-free laws, educate the public about secondhand marijuana and vape smoke, and oppose policies that would weaken the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act.

Pete Bialick has expertise about smoke-free housing and has provided technical assistance, consultation, and training to Colorado tobacco-prevention program staff, grantees, and health agencies, and has worked with numerous housing providers and multiunit housing residents. Pete developed mysmokefreeehousing.com, which lists more than 9,000 multiunit residences that have no-smoking policies and mysmokefreehousing.org, which provides resources for housing providers and residents. He also created smokeissmoke.com to educate the public about secondhand marijuana smoke and BreatheFreeCo.org.

Pete has experience in policy promotion, grassroots mobilization, material development, direct mail, database management, public relations, Web site creation and management, Spanish translation, telemarketing, counter-advertising, mail list development, media buying, copy-writing, graphic design, fund-raising, and bookkeeping. He speaks Spanish and has worked with diverse groups including the Latino/a Research Policy Center, the Colorado Minority Health Forum, and the STEPP Tobacco Disparities Program.
